Thoughts Along the Path . . .

Good Things Happen in 3s

We’ve probably all heard the phrase “Good things happen in 3s” even if we cannot explain why it seems to be true. That being the case, lately I have been wondering if those “things” that happen in 3s can be a number. More specifically, I’m thinking about the number “2” because I’ve noticed 3 recent events sharing that number.

THE NUMBER 2: Almost exactly 2 years ago this column began in the Ayr News. During these 2 years I have been happy to write articles about people, events, and ideas of local interest. These articles have ranged from discussing service projects to recalling the sweet return to Ayr after extended travel — and at times have announced gatherings open to all.

THE NUMBER 20: Earlier this year the Baha’i community celebrated 20 years of forming in North Dumfries. You may not know this, but throughout the world, wherever 9 or more adult Baha’is reside, a body called a “Local Spiritual Assembly” is established. The work of each Assembly extends beyond organizing activities for its members. Rather, the Assembly seeks ways to contribute to the wellbeing of the entire community and to join with others in learning and in service. Examples include our 18 years with the Region’s Adopt-a-Highway program and also bimonthly Unity Cafés, which began in 2017.

THE NUMBER 200: Later this month Baha’is around the world — as well as members of other faiths, governments, and countless institutions and individuals — will be observing the 200th anniversary of the Birth of the Báb. His name translates as “the Gate,” and He is known as the “Herald” of the Baha’i Faith, having prepared His followers for Baha’u’llah, the Prophet-Founder of the Baha’i Faith. Baha’is believe in world unity and recognize the Founders of other faiths as having brought messages over time with the same basic truths. Baha’is accept the Bab and Baha’u’llah as the latest in this succession of Messengers.

I realize that some of those details may be unfamiliar, and I also realize that there is much more to all of this than I can explain in this brief article. So please consider joining us in celebration on Saturday 26 October at 7 pm at the North Dumfries Community Complex. The program will include a short explanation of the Báb and His teachings. There will also be music and other cultural performances with lots of time for socializing and enjoying yummy refreshments.

You are invited and we would love to see you there. For more information: http://northdumfries-bahais.org/ .
